It’s been a long, productive winter here in western Montana. And honestly a bit wild, like the land.
There’s a lot going on. My nature thriller, “The Puller” was released in early winter and is now with Pyr/Simon and Schuster. The audiobook version came out last week, and from the samples I’ve heard, the narrator performed it well.
The Puller film remains in development with talented folks that I trust.
My social media ( Facebook, mostly) has been quite frankly, crazy. I’ve been trying to manage a huge increase in traffic and messages. This new website was created as a response to those changes. I wanted something where I could control the content on a more consistent basis.
In addition to all that, I’ve been filming scenes and content for a documentary called “Leaving Montana”. The film will have many things you’d expect from me, but also some things you won’t.
I’ve also started a new novel based in the Bitterroot Mountains of western Montana.
This is an intense period of time, quite honestly. Socially and professionally. And my head is a bit spun. I’m in the process of deciding if I want to stay in Montana, or move to LA (which my agent prefers).
I’m lucky to be in the position I’m in, to have these kinds of choices. To have this kind of freedom.
But as always, I’m focused on my art. Because the work, the process, is the reward. And here in Montana, I feel a kinship with the land, with the animals, with the people, that I don’t feel in other places. And so I ride that feeling for as long as I can. It’s a timeless, wild feeling, with a palpable sense of place in the universe.
And so I write. And I film. And I walk the woods. And I feel it.
Be well,
– Michael
